Antique anglo indian carved wooden box, mens jewelry box, business card box, wooden trinket box
Antique Anglo-indian ornately carved hardwood box, hand carved with extensive flower and scrolls motivs, dating from ca. 1880-1900. The rounded corners and dark colour bring an added touch of elegance to this item. The central wooden cartouche on the lid is empty and an engraving or plaque could be placed here. The hinges are in good condition and the inner divider is present and whole. The inside of the box is clean, smelling faintly of incense.
There is a little bit of age related damage to this box where there is are smaller splits between panels on the left front (side) and right back (side) of the box. The front closes well with has a small 'underbite'. There are a few wood splinters missing, most from where they have attached the panels together. Most noticeable is the lower left front (pictured). It does not hinder the function of the box nor does it take away from its beauty.
Overall this is a great box in good condition for its age. It could have a wide range of uses: trinket box, jewelry box, card box, desk tidy, general stowage, book box, letter box, glove box, gift presentation, smoking box etc etc etc.
