Antique grotesque inkwell, Victorian imp / devil inkwell with snail and frog on its head
One of the best Victorian late 1800s devil inkwells - an antique grotesque of an imp, devil or demon. It looks like it walked straight out of an Hieronymus Bosch painting! Heavy cast metal with a gold toned wash, and in great condition. It has hinged cover and note the snail covering its head with a frog sitting on its back. The devils tail serves two functions, one as a steady and the second as a handle to pick it up. The ears are open to allow resting places for pens. It is missing its glass well. Otherwise in absolutely beautiful condition with no breaks, cracks, chips or repairs.
Measures 4 - 1/4" x 4 - 5/8" at widest points on base x 4" tall overall.
