A sweet antique ebony pot with the original puff made from down, satin and a little carved bone handle (the handle is a little loose). There is no powder in the box, even though the puff smells sweet. The screw cap lid works well and the box is in near perfect condition without cracks, breaks or chips. Some minor signs of age including a small ding on top and 'real ebony' engraved on the bottom. Dating ca 1900-1910's, this turned hard wooden box would be perfect to store your own little trinkets on your dressing table or vanity, or why not use it as a little desk accessory or organising piece?
Although used by 18th and 19th century English cabinet makers and box makers, Ebony tended to be more favoured by their continental counterparts. Because of costs and over logging, they stopped the commercial use of ebony at the start of the 20th century. Ebony is still an exceedingly rare and valuable tree species that continues to face extinction.
