Antique bonbon box, jewellery box, travel pill box, WWI snuff box by Joe Descomps, soldier embracing a nurse, art nouveau collectable tin
An amazing antique bonbon box in a silver plate on copper. The front relief is a French art nouveau or Belle epoque scene by Joe Descomps with a soldier embracing a nurse, whilst other soldiers march in the background. On the bottom of the front image is depicted what seems like a magnifying glass in which the word 'Deutsch' can be read and the German Eagle can be seen. Great as a small bonbon box, jewellery box, travel pill box or WWI snuff box
This little box is signed Joe Descomps. Sc, who would have been Joseph Jules Emmanuel Cormier (French, 1869–1950). Joe Descomps is more famous for art nouveau sculpture. I have not been able to find out much about the exact age or manufacture of this little thing as I have not been able to locate another! There are names and a date on the front as well: (hard to read)

Overall this box is showing normal signs of age and wear, most notably to the rubbing of the silver plating to the front, wreath banded edges and the back. The inside is remarkably clean, like its hardly ever been used.
This is a great box for collectors of high-quality small containers, as well as collectors of WWI militaria. Why not use it as a small travel box to keep your jewelry safe (I can easily make a simple velvet lining for you in purple, black or blue, just ask!), or give it as a present to someone special?
