Antique full plate tintype portrait photograph of a middle-aged man
Quite a rare full sized antique tintype of a middle-aged man - this portrait photograph was taken on a thin sheet of metal using the wet collodion technique.
There is a darker halo around the man where it would have sat in a frame. It's nice to be able to see the 'faults' and chemical pouring lines around the edges of the plate. It has a number of smaller stains, some scratches and a few shallow dents.
I picked this up at a New York Flea market a few years ago (It has been in my personal collection in the meanwhile) so I would assume the image was once made in the States. This image would date ca 1860-1880, when collodion photography was very popular.
Size: 17.5 x 22.5 cm
