Antique Union case with miniature painting of a butterfly, Victorian daguerreotype case, antique photography casing
A very sweet item - a black union case, by S. Peck &Co, holding a miniature painting of a moth or butterfly. This thermoplastic daguerreotype case is the right size for a 1/6th plate. Alternatively, an ambrotype or tintype could be stored in one of these.
The black casing with elaborate scrolls on the outside, both front and back, the inside with (loose) purple felt and a miniature painting. The condition of the outside is good with a little bit of wear, but without cracks, breaks or losses. There is a small chip off the bottom edge on the back. The hinges are a little loose. The case clicks shut.
