Antique albumen print - Egyptian statue of Ramses by A Beato
An original, antique photographic albumen print of a statue of Ramses by A. Beato (ca1832 - 1906). The pencil writing on the back says: '9(..) Loezer statue de Ramzes'. Felice or Felix Beato was one of the first people to take photographs in East Asia and one of the first war photographers. He is noted for his views and Panoramic photography of the architecture and landscapes of Asia and the Mediterranean. This is an old sepia toned albumen print, which is a sensitised layer on very thin paper. It is in good condition, apart from a few places where part of the paper layer has peeled away. The losses are not complete, but the areas will be fragile and are almost transparent with seeming discoloration of the image to the front. You will receive this original - not a reprint - in a hard plastic sleeve. Size: Size: 8 x 10-3/8 inches
