Sterling silver art nouveau hair brushes by Deakin and Francis
A beautiful pair of Art Nouveau Sterling silver hair brushes - both are fully hallmarked for D & F, Birmingham, date letter 'a' for 1900 (the date letter is very rubbed on the other). Founded in 1786, Deakin & Francis is today, seven generations later, still owned and managed by the Deakin family (James, Henry and David Deakin). In recent times the house speciality has become the manufacture of a large range of gentlemen's cufflinks.
The brushes are of identical design, the handles hollow with art nouveau designs to the top and sides. Both handles have been engraved with curling monograms P.R.J or P.R.I. Both have a slight rattle where material on the inside of the brush may have come loose due to age. The bristles are in good order and both brushes look quite clean yet a little whitish / dusty on the wood bases. The silver handles and backs with old dents especially around the edges. The decorations on the backs and handles and still quite strong. You will receive both brushes.
