Vintage cigarette case, silver plated card case, epns smoking box, enamel French / British flag, entente cordiale, WWI victory commemoration
A very evocative French / UK cigarette case, possibly a commemoration case for the entente cordiale; (wikipedia) "...a series of agreements signed on 8 April 1904 between the United Kingdom and France which saw a significant improvement in Anglo-French relations Beyond the immediate concerns of colonial expansion addressed by the agreement, the signing of the Entente Cordiale marked the end of almost a thousand years of intermittent conflict between the two states and their predecessors, and replaced the modus vivendi that had existed since the end of the Napoleonic Wars in 1815 with a more formal agreement."
Or perhaps to remember to alliance between France and the UK during WWI. The exact date is unknown - it is possibly as old as the 1910's. Marked EPNS (silver plate)
The case in still in good usable vintage condition - there are some dents to the body and damage to the enamel of the French flag. The straps on the inside of the case are replacements.
