WWI picture frame, small brass photo frame, memorial frame, Britannia fallen soldier commemoration, wreath of laurels oval picture frame
Freestanding brass photo / picture frames, dating ca 1900-1930's. Small round brass frame, depicting a maiden (Britannia?) holding a wreath of laurels over the space for the picture, where quite possibly the image of a fallen soldier would have been placed.
The composition is reminiscent of the 'death penny', produced in 1919-1920 to commemorate British and Empire soldiers killed in the First World War
The frame is in great condition, rubbed but still detailed. The glass is held in place by a metal clip, which may have been a later addition.
